There is only one way for the cranial mechanism to be normal. There are a million ways for it to be abnormal.
Most practitioners learn the normal. Far fewer learn to recognize, name, and undo the specific ways it goes wrong.
This fourth installment in the Advanced Neurofascial Release series takes the five aspects of the cranial mechanism and works through each one twice: first as it should behave, then as it presents when something has gone wrong. Inherent motility of the central nervous system. Reciprocal tension membranes. Cranial bone motion. Cerebrospinal fluid fluctuation. The core link to the sacrum.
For each, Dr. Davidson names the dysfunction and shows you the correction.
Inside the 47 minutes:
- Cerebral asynchrony and unilateral hemispheric motion, and how a one-sided cranium telegraphs itself all the way down the fascial planes
- CSF vortices, density changes, and force-factor patterns from trauma, including how to palpate the speed and direction of an old injury still running in the tissue
- Arbuckle’s cranial dural stress bands and the distortions they create at bregma and lambda
- Intraosseous strain in the sacrum and innominate, and dural tube adhesions in the core link
- The baseline range-of-motion screen used before and after every correction
- The “gelling” phenomenon, and why the right clinical decision is sometimes to send the patient home untreated
- A palpation exercise for developing whole-body fascial awareness that you can practice this week
Two live case demonstrations, recorded before a physician audience at the Arizona Academy of Osteopathy annual conference in Sedona. In the first, a past president of the American Academy of Osteopathy presents with a mechanism that will not flex or extend. The key lesion turns out to be a fascial adhesion near the second rib. In the second, a physician facing shoulder surgery has an entire outer fifth of her body running without CSF flow, a pattern following no anatomical model Dr. Davidson had seen before. You watch the evaluation, hear the reasoning out loud as it happens, and see the before-and-after findings confirmed by a second set of hands from the audience.
This is not a course in osteopathy in the cranial field, and it does not teach basic cranial mechanics. It assumes you have completed the Basic Neurofascial Release course and can already palpate normal and abnormal in the body. What it adds is the analytical process: how an experienced clinician takes a whole-body pattern, works upstream to the greatest disturbance, and finds the one strain holding the rest of it hostage.
Thirty years of palpatory experience, condensed into the thought process behind the treatment.
